Overview

Business correspondence of Edwin LeRoy Carney and Charles Thomas Carney, 1894-1900. This collection of 279 letters is divided into two groups: those written to Edwin Carney and those written to Charles Carney. All of the letters are arranged alphabetically, and then chronologically within the alphabet. A letterpress book, containing letters presenting the Carneys' business interests, is also part of the collection.

Thomas Carney family papers

Overview

Thomas A. Carney, 1824-1888, served as the second governor of the state of Kansas, and subsequently as the mayor of Leavenworth. The papers also include those of family members, especially his wife Rebecca Ann Canaday Carney. Their five sons were Edwin LeRoy, William Ware, Harry Canaday, Charles Thomas, and Frankie (died in infancy). There is correspondence, newspaper articles, mining certificates, land documents, speeches, and political memorabilia of the time.
